TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Following a CBS report, which revealed Congress doesn’t mandate local law enforcement agencies to submit their hate crime statistics to the FBI, KMVT talked to the Twin Falls Sheriff’s Office and Twin Falls Police Department to get their reaction.
“As I have done the research as hate crimes reported in on the national scene, the research would tend to lead or tend to show that hate crimes as reported is totally not entirely accurate,” said Sgt. Kenneth Mencl from the Twin Fall Sheriffs Department.
“Local numbers, yes. Do we have confidence in there? We do have systems in place, we do some double checks as far as our analytics in the way that we monitor these crime trends,” said J.P. O’Donnel from the Twin Falls Police Department.
Both departments assured that regardless of questions about national statistics, they will continue report and investigate seriously all hate crimes in the Magic Valley.
