Change in circulating klotho in response to weight loss, with and without exercise, in adults with overweight or obesity

Front Aging. 2023 Jun 30;4:1213228. doi: 10.3389/fragi.2023.1213228. eCollection 2023.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Klotho is a protein associated with protection from aging-related diseases and health conditions. Obesity is associated with lower Klotho concentrations. Thus, this secondary analysis of adults with obesity examined 1) the change in serum Klotho concentration in response to a behavioral weight loss intervention by the magnitude of weight loss achieved; and 2) the association among serum Klotho concentration and weight, body composition, and cardiorespiratory fitness. Methods: Participants were randomized to either diet alone (DIET), diet plus 150 min of physical activity per week (DIET + PA150), or diet plus 250 min of physical activity per week (DIET + PA250). Participants [n = 152; age: 45.0 ± 7.9 years; body mass index (BMI): 32.4 ± 3.8 kg/m2] included in this secondary analysis provided blood samples at baseline, 6-, and 12 months, and were classified by weight loss response (Responder: achieved ≥10% weight loss at 6 or 12 months; Non-responder: achieved <5% weight loss at both 6 and 12 months). Serum Klotho was measured using a solid-phase sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Analyses of covariance (ANCOVA’s) were used to examine changes in weight, body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness, and Klotho concentration by weight loss response across the 12-month weight loss intervention. Results: Responders had a greater reduction in measures of weight and body composition, and a greater increase in cardiorespiratory fitness, compared to Non-Responders (p < 0.05). Change in Klotho concentration differed between Responders and Non-Responders (p < 0.05), with the increase in Klotho concentration from baseline to 6 months for Responders being statistically significant. The 6-month change in Klotho concentration was inversely associated with the 6-month change in weight (r s = -0.195), BMI (r s = -0.196), fat mass (r s = -0.184), and waist circumference (r s = -0.218) (p-values <0.05). Discussion: Findings provide evidence within the context of a behavioral intervention, with and without exercise, that change in Klotho concentration is significantly different between adults with weight loss ≥10% compared to <5% across 12 months. These findings suggest that weight loss and reduction in fat mass may be favorably associated with the change in Klotho concentration. This may reduce the risk of negative health consequences associated with accelerated aging in middle-aged adults.

Evaluation of the Recommended 30 cc/kg Fluid Dose for Patients With Septic Shock and Hypoperfusion With Lactate Greater Than 4 mmol/L

Crit Care Explor. 2023 Jul 13;5(7):e0932. doi: 10.1097/CCE.0000000000000932. eCollection 2023 Jul.

ABSTRACT

The Surviving Sepsis Campaign Guidelines recommend fluid administration of 30 cc/kg ideal body weight (IBW) for patients with sepsis and lactate greater than 4 mmol/L within 3 hours of identification. In this study, we explore the impact of fluid dose on lactate normalization, treatment cost, length of stay, and mortality in patients with lactate greater than 4.

DESIGN: Multicenter retrospective observational study.

SETTING: Eight-hospital urban healthcare system in Northeastern United States.

PATIENTS: Patients with sepsis, initial lactate value greater than 4 mmol/L, and received appropriate antibiotics within 3 hours.

INTERVENTIONS: None.

MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: We stratified patients into five groups based on the dose of fluid administered within 3 hours after sepsis identification. The groupings were less than 15 cc/kg IBW, 15.1-25 cc/kg IBW, 25.1-35 cc/kg IBW, 35.1-50 cc/kg IBW, and greater than 50 cc/kg IBW. We used the group that received a fluid dose of 25.1-35 cc/kg IBW, as a reference group. The mean age was 66 years, and 56% were male. Three hundred seventy-one (25%) received less than 15 cc/kg of IBW of crystalloid fluid, 278 (17%) received 15-25 cc/kg of IBW, 316 (21%) received 25.1-35 cc/kg of IBW, 319 (21%) received 35.1-50 cc/kg of IBW, and 207 (14%) received greater than 50 cc/kg of IBW. After multilinear regression, there was no significant difference in lactate normalization between the reference group and any of the other fluid groups. We also found no statistically significant difference in the observed/expected cost, or observed/expected length of stay, between the reference group and any of the other fluid groups. Mortality was higher among patients who received greater than 50 cc/kg IBW when compared to the recommended dose.

CONCLUSIONS: In patients with sepsis and lactate value greater than 4 mmol/L, high or low fluid doses were not associated with better lactate clearance or patient outcomes. Greater than 50 cc/kg IBW dose of fluids within 3 hours is associated with higher mortality.

Value of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography in detection of endoleak after endovascular repair of infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm

Zhonghua Yi Xue Za Zhi. 2023 Jul 18;103(27):2106-2111. doi: 10.3760/cma.j.cn112137-20230214-00202.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound in detecting endoleak after endovascular repair of infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm (EVAR). Methods: The postoperative follow-up data of 102 patients with infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm treated with EVAR in Tianjin Medical University General Hospital from August 2015 to December 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 79 males and 23 females, aged 50-91 (69.6±7.6) years old. Using CT angiography (CTA) as the gold standard for diagnosing endoleaks, the effectiveness of contrast-enhanced ultrasound and CDUS in detecting endoleaks was evaluated by paired design chi-square test, and the Kappa value was calculated for consistency test. Patients were divided into groups according to body mass index (BMI), and the number of false-negative endoleaks detected by contrast-enhanced ultrasound in each group was calculated, and its ratio to the actual number of endoleaks was calculated to evaluate whether BMI was related to false-negative ultrasound-enhanced ultrasound. Results: A total of 203 follow-up visits met the inclusion criteria. Endoleaks were detected 36 times (17.7%) by CTA, 31 times (15.3%) by contrast-enhanced ultrasound, 16 times (7.9%) by CDUS, and they all detected type Ⅰ, type Ⅱ and type Ⅲ endoleaks. There was no significant difference between contrast-enhanced ultrasound and CTA in endoleak detection rate and determination of endoleak types (endoleak detection rate: 15.3% vs 17.7%; determination of endoleak types: type Ⅰ 4 vs 4, type Ⅱ 26 vs 31, type Ⅲ 1 vs 1; all P>0.05). CDUS and CTA had statistically significant differences in the detection rate of endoleaks and determination of endoleak types (endoleak detection rate: 7.9% vs 17.7%; determination of endoleak types: type Ⅰ 4 vs 4, type Ⅱ 11 vs 31, type Ⅲ 1 vs 1; all P<0.001). Compared with CTA, contrast-enhanced ultrasound has a sensitivity of 83.3%, a specificity of 99.4%, a Youden index of 0.827, a coincidence rate of 96.6%, a positive predictive value of 96.8%, a negative predictive value of 96.5%, and a Kappa value of 0.875(P<0.001). The two showed excellent diagnostic consistency. All 6 endoleaks not detected by contrast-enhanced ultrasound were type Ⅱ endoleak that did not require treatment, and 3(15.8%) occurred in obese patients with a BMI≥32 kg/m2. Compared with CTA, CDUS had a sensitivity of 38.9%, a specificity of 98.8%, a Youden index of 0.377, a coincidence rate of 88.2%, a positive predictive value of 87.5%, a negative predictive value of 88.2%, and a Kappa value of 0.482 (P<0.001). The two showed moderate diagnostic agreement. The correlation coefficient of the maximum diameter of aneurysms measured by ultrasound and CT was r=0.873(P<0.001). Conclusions: Contrast-enhanced ultrasound is accurate in detecting endoleak after infrarenal EVAR, and its sensitivity to endoleak detection in obese patients with BMI≥32 kg/m2 will be reduced. CDUS is not suitable for detection of endoleak after infrarenal EVAR, but it can be used to monitor the change of the largest diameter of aneurysm after EVAR.

Zhonghua Er Bi Yan Hou Tou Jing Wai Ke Za Zhi. 2023 Jul 7;58(7):705-709. doi: 10.3760/cma.j.cn115330-20220719-00447.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the effect of vidian neurectomy and selective vidian neurectomy in the treatment of moderate and severe persistent allergic rhinitis (AR). Methods: A total of 60 patients with moderate-to-severe persistent AR treated in Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine from June 2018 to June 2020 were selected, including 28 males and 32 females. A total of 40 cases in the observation group were subjected to vidianneurectomy, while, 20 cases in the control group underwent selective vidianneurectomy. Patients in the two groups were followed up at 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years, respectively, and evaluated according to AR diagnostic and efficacy assessment criteria. Four symptoms of sneezing, clear runny nose, nasal congestion, and nasal itching were scored as efficacy indices before and at 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years after surgery. The regression of the lower turbinate swelling after surgery was assessed by nasal endoscopy or sinus CT. Postoperative tear secretion was followed up in both groups, and patients with dry eyes were counted in combination with ocular symptoms. SPSS 19.0 software was used to statistically analyze the data before and after the surgery and between the two groups. Results: The preoperative, 6-month, 1-year, and 2-year postoperative inferior turbinate signs were (2.73±0.45), (1.20±0.41), (1.25±0.49) and (1.30±0.56) points in the observation group and (2.75±0.44), (1.45±0.69), (1.75±0.72) and (1.90±0.85) points in the control group, respectively, with a statistically significant difference in the between-subjects effect test between the two groups (F=8.28, P<0.05), indicating a more durable surgical effect in the observation group. The total effective rate at 2 years after surgery was 95.0% (38/40) in the observation group and 50% (10/20) in the control group. The difference between the two groups by Fisher’s exact test was statistically significant. No dry eye patient was found in either group at a 1.5-year postoperative follow-up. Conclusion: Both vidianneurectomy and selective vidianneurectomy have good recent treatment effects, vidianneurectomy has better long-term curative effects than selective vidianneurectomy.

Effects and clinical significance of NLRP3 inflammasome activated by IL-17A in CRSwNP

Zhonghua Er Bi Yan Hou Tou Jing Wai Ke Za Zhi. 2023 Jul 7;58(7):690-698. doi: 10.3760/cma.j.cn115330-20220922-00576.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the effects and clinical significance of NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome activated by interleukin (IL)-17A in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). Methods: Patients underwent nasal endoscopic surgery in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from January 2020 to December 2021 were collected, including 28 CRSwNP (including 19 males and 9 females, aged 19 to 67 years), 22 chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps (CRSsNP) and 22 controls. qRT-PCR was used to detect the expressions of IL-17A, NLRP3, IL-1β and IL-18 in the three groups, and their correlations were analyzed. The positions of IL-17A, NLRP3 and IL-18 in nasal polys were analyzed by immunofluorescence. Western Blotting and ELISA were employed to detect the expression of NLRP3, IL-1β and IL-18 in the human nasal epithelial cells after using IL-17A stimulation or IL-17A receptor inhibitor. Immunofluorescence was used to observe the NLRP3, IL-1β, and IL-18 protein expression after IL-17A stimulating human nasal epithelial cells, and after the use of IL-17A receptor inhibitor and NLRP3 inhibitor MCC950. The correlations between NLRP3, IL-1β, IL-18 and CT scores, nasal endoscopic scores, visual analogue scale (VAS) scores, and sino-nasal outcome test (SNOT) 22 scores of CRSwNP patients were analyzed. SPSS 20.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Results: The expressions of IL-17A, NLRP3, IL-1β and IL-18 in the tissues of CRSwNP patients were significantly higher than those in CRSsNP group(P=0.018,P<0.001,P=0.005, P=0.016) and the control group(all P<0.001). IL-17A was positively correlated with the expression of NLRP3, IL-1β, and IL-18(r ralue was 0.643,0.650,0.629,respectively, all P<0.05). IL-17A, NLRP3, and IL-18 were co-localized in the epithelial propria of polyp tissue. IL-17A stimulated the expressions of NLRP3, IL-1β, and IL-18 in human nasal epithelial cells. After the use of IL-17A receptor inhibitor, the expressions of NLRP3, IL-1β, and IL-18 were significantly down-regulated. After the use of NLRP3 inhibitor MCC950, IL-17A was significantly down-regulated to promote the expression of NLRP3, IL-1β, and IL-18. The expressions of NLRP3, IL-1β and IL-18 were positively correlated with CT, nasal endoscopy, VAS, and SNOT22 scores in patients with CRSwNP. Conclusions: IL-17A promotes the release of IL-1β and IL-18 by activating the NLRP3 inflammasome and aggravates the severity of the disease in CRSwNP.

Tanshinone ⅡA activates PI3K/AKT signaling pathway to inhibit the apoptosis of mice cochlear pericytes induced by high glucose

Zhonghua Er Bi Yan Hou Tou Jing Wai Ke Za Zhi. 2023 Jul 7;58(7):681-689. doi: 10.3760/cma.j.cn115330-20230115-00022.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate whether tanshinone ⅡA can protect the apoptosis of mice cochlear pericytes induced by high glucose and its specific protective mechanism, so as to provide experimental evidence for the prevention and treatment of diabetic hearing loss. Methods: C57BL/6J male mice were used to prepare type 2 diabetes model, which were divided into normal (NG) group, diabetic (DM) group, diabetic+tanshinone ⅡA (HG+tanshinone ⅡA) group and tanshinone ⅡA group. Each group had 10 animals. Primary cochlear pericytes were divided into NG group, HG group (high glucose 35 mmol/L), HG+tanshinone ⅡA (1, 3, 5 μmol/L) group, HG+Tanshinone ⅡA+LY294002 (PI3K/AKT pathway inhibitor) group, LY294002 group, tanshinone ⅡA group and DMSO group. Auditory brainstem response (ABR) was used to measure hearing threshold. Evans blue was used to detect the permeability of blood labyrinth barrier in each group. TBA methods were used to detect oxidative stress levels in various organs of mice. Morphological changes of stria vascularis were observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining (HE). Evans blue was used to detect the vascular labyrinth barrier permeability in cochlea. The expression of apoptosis protein in stria vascularis pericytes was observed by immunofluorescence. Pericytes apoptosis rate was observed by flow cytometry. DCFH-DA was combined with flow cytometry to detect intracellular ROS content, and Western blot was used to detect the expression of apoptotic proteins (Cleaved-caspase3, Bax), anti-apoptotic proteins (BCL-2) and pathway proteins (PI3K, p-PI3K, AKT, p-AKT). SPSS software was used for statistical analysis. Independent sample t test was performed, and P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Animal experiments: Tanshinone ⅡA decreased the hearing threshold of DM group [(35.0±3.5) dB SPL vs. (55.3±8.1) dB SPL] (t=4.899, P<0.01), decreased the oxidative stress level in cochlea (t=4.384, P<0.05), improved the structure disorder, atrophy of cochlea vascular lines, vacuole increased phenomenon. Tanshinone ⅡA alleviated the increased permeability of the blood labyrinth barrier [Evans blue leakage (6.84±0.27) AU vs. (8.59±0.85) AU] in the cochlea of DM mice (t=2.770, P<0.05), reversed the apoptotic protein: Caspase3 (t=4.956, P<0.01) and Bax (t=4.388, P<0.05) in cochlear vascularis. Cell experiments: Tanshinone ⅡA decreased intracellular ROS content in a concentration-dependent way (t=3.569, P<0.05; t=4.772, P<0.01; t=7.494, P<0.01); Tanshinone ⅡA decreased apoptosis rate and apoptotic protein, and increased the expression of anti-apoptotic protein, p-PI3K/PI3K and p-AKT/AKT in concentration-dependent manner (all P values<0.05); LY294002 reversed the protective effect of tanshinone ⅡA on pericytes apoptosis (all P values<0.05). Conclusion: Tanshinone ⅡA can inhibit the apoptosis of cochlear pericytes induced by high glucose by reducing oxidative stress level and activating PI3K/AKT signaling pathway under high glucose environment, thus playing a protective role in diabetic hearing loss.

Normative wideband absorbance measures in children: a cross-sectional study

Zhonghua Er Bi Yan Hou Tou Jing Wai Ke Za Zhi. 2023 Jul 7;58(7):672-680. doi: 10.3760/cma.j.cn115330-20230616-00282.

ABSTRACT

Objective: This study was to investigate the main characteristics and related factors of wideband absorbance (WBA) in children with normal hearing and to obtain age-specific reference range of WBA. Methods: 384 children between 0-12 years old (615 ears) who visited the Beijing Children’s Hospital, Capital Medical University from October 2019 to February 2021 were enrolled, including 230 males (376 ears) and 154 females (239 ears), with totally 306 left ears and 309 right ears. Wideband tympanometry (WBT) was performed and normative WBA data were analyzed by SPSS 24.0 statistical software. Repeated measures and multivariate analysis of variance were applied to the data from 16 points at 1/3-octave frequencies (226, 324, 408, 500, 667, 841, 1 000, 1 297, 1 682, 2 000, 2 670, 3 364, 4 000, 5 339, 6 727 and 8 000 Hz) to evaluate the effects of frequency, age, external auditory canal pressures, gender and ear on WBA. Results: According to the WBT frequency-absorbance curve, the subjects were divided into seven groups: 1-month old group, 2-month old group, 3-month old group, 4-5 month old group, 6-24 month old group,>2-6 year old group and>6-12 year old group. The WBA of normal-hearing children underwent a series of developmental changes with age at both ambient pressure and tympanometric peak pressures. WBA results for 1-month group and 2-month old group exhibited a multipeaked pattern, with the peaks occurring around 2 000 and 4 897 Hz, and a notch around 3 886 Hz. WBA results for 3-month group and 4-5 month old group exhibited a single broad-peaked pattern, with the peak occurring between 2 000-4 757 Hz. The WBA of 1-month old group to 4-5 month old group decreased gradually at low frequency (226-408 Hz) and 6 727 Hz, and increased at middle to high frequency (2 670-4 000 Hz). The WBA of 6-24 month old group were significantly lower than that of 2-month old group to 4-5 month old group at all frequencies except 3 364 and 4 000 Hz. WBA results for 6-24 month old group,>2-6 year old group and>6-12 year old group exhibited a single-peaked pattern, and the peak frequency of WBA moved to the lower frequency successively. From 6-24 month old group to>6-12 year old group, the WBA gradually increased at low to middle frequencies (667-2 670 Hz) and 8 000 Hz, and decreased at middle to high frequencies (3 364-5 339 Hz). Among the 16 frequencies of all age groups, the difference between WBA under ambient pressure and tympanometric peak pressure were -0.09-0.06, and 43.75%-81.25% frequency points had statistically significant difference, which was mainly manifested in that WBA under ambient pressure were lower than that under tympanometric peak pressure at 226-1 682 Hz. There was no significant ear effect on all of the age groups. Similarly, there was no significant gender effect except for 3-month old group and 4-5 month old group. Conclusions: The WBA of normal-hearing children measured at ambient pressure and tympanometric peak pressure varied across the frequencies with age from 1 month to 12 years old, and different frequencies followed different change patterns (increase vs. decrease) in WBA. There was also significant external auditory canal pressures effect on all of the age groups. The establishment of age-specific reference range of WBA for 0-12 years old normal-hearing children in this study would be useful for clinical practice of determining normative data regarding WBT.

Comparative study of surgical effects on patients with mixed deafness and otosclerosis with different air bone conduction differences

Zhonghua Er Bi Yan Hou Tou Jing Wai Ke Za Zhi. 2023 Jul 7;58(7):666-671. doi: 10.3760/cma.j.cn115330-20230616-00283.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To analyze the surgical efficacy of patients with mixed hearing loss and otosclerosis with different air bone gap (ABG) before surgery, and to provide reference for the prognosis evaluation of otosclerosis surgery. Methods: The clinical data of 108 cases(116 ears) of otosclerosis who had undergone stapes fenestration technique artificial stapes implantation in Xiangya Hospital of Central South University from November 2013 to May 2020 and had mixed hearing loss before surgery were collected, including 71 women(76 ears)and 37 men (40 ears), with an average age of 38.5 years. According to preoperative pure tone audiometry ABG, they were divided into three groups: group S, 15 dB≤ABG<31 dB, a total of 39 ears; group M, 31 dB≤ABG<46 dB, a total of 58 ears; and group L, ABG≥46 dB, 19 ears in total. The hearing outcomes of three groups of patients at 6-12 months after surgery were compared and analyzed using SPSS 24.0 statistical software. Results: A total of 3 patients (group S: 2 cases; group L: 1 case) experienced severe sensorineural hearing loss after surgery and were not included in the statistical analysis. After surgery, the pure tone hearing threshold of patients with otosclerosis in each group was significantly improved compared to before surgery, with an average air conduction threshold improvement of(21.6±13.4) dB. The difference between before and after surgery was statistically significant(t=17.13, P<0.01). The average bone conduction threshold improved by(3.7±7.6) dB, and the difference was statistically significant before and after surgery(t=5.20, P<0.01). The postoperative ABG was(18.3±9.3) dB, which was significantly reduced compared to preoperative(36.2±8.6)dB. Among the three groups of patients, the L group had the highest improvement in air conduction threshold[(29.9±10.8)dB], while the S group had the lowest improvement[(15.7±11.4)dB]. There was no statistically significant difference in post operative pure tone hearing thresholds between the three groups(P>0.05). The postoperative ABG in group S was the smallest[(16.5±9.0)dB], while in group L, the postoperative ABG was the largest[(20.5±10.0)dB]. Compared with group S, group M and group L still had a large residual ABG at 2 000 Hz after surgery. The bone conduction threshold of both S and M groups improved to some extent after surgery compared to before (P<0.01). Conclusions: Surgery can benefit patients with mixed hearing loss and otosclerosis with different preoperative ABG. Patients with small preoperative ABG have better surgical results and ideal ABG closure at all frequencies after surgery. Patients with large preoperative ABG can significantly increase the gas conduction threshold during surgery, but certain frequencies of ABG may still be left behind after surgery. The improvement effect of surgery on bone conduction threshold is not significant. Patients should be informed of treatment methods such as hearing aids based on their actual situation for selection.

Epidemiological characteristics of imported malaria cases after malaria elimination in Yixing City of Jiangsu Province

Zhongguo Xue Xi Chong Bing Fang Zhi Za Zhi. 2023 Jun 29;35(3):294-298. doi: 10.16250/j.32.1374.2023028.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To analyse the epidemiological characteristics of imported malaria cases after malaria elimination in Yixing City, Jiangsu Province, so as to provide reference for malaria prevention and control in grassroots healthcare institutions.

METHODS: All data pertaining to malaria cases reported in Yixing City from 2016 to 2022 were retrieved from Chinese Disease Control and Prevention Information System, and the data pertaining to vector monitoring and human malaria parasite infections from 2016 to 2022 were collected for a descriptive statistical analysis.

RESULTS: A total of 14 imported malaria cases were reported in Yixing City from 2016 to 2022, including 12 cases with Plasmodium falciparum malaria, one case with P. vivax malaria and one case with P. ovale malaria, and all cases acquired infections in Africa and then returned to Yixing City. Malaria cases were reported across 2016 to 2022 except in 2020 and 2021. Malaria cases were predominantly reported during the period between December and February of the next year, and workers were the predominant occupation. The institutions where malaria was initially diagnosed included county-level general hospitals, county-level disease prevention and control institutions and grassroots healthcare centers, and there were 10 cases with definitive diagnosis of malaria on the day of initial diagnosis, with a 64.29% (9/14) correct rate of initial diagnosis. There were 5 cases diagnosed with severe malaria, and the standardized response rate was 100.00% following the “1-3-7” surveillance and response strategy. Of all malaria vectors, only Anopheles sinensis was monitored in Yixing City from 2016 to 2022, and all humans were tested negative for blood smears exceptimportedmalariacases.

CONCLUSIONS: The correct rate of initial malaria diagnosis was not high in healthcare institutions in Yixing City from 2016 to 2022, and there are still multiple challenges for prevention of re-establishment of imported malaria.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To predict the potential suitable habitat of Haemaphysalis concinna in Heilongjiang Province under different climatic scenarios.

METHODS: The geographic locations of ticks in Heilongjiang Province from 1980 to 2022 were captured from literature review and field ticks monitoring data from Harbin Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Heilongjiang Province, and the tick distribution sites with spatial correlations were removed using the software ArcGIS 10.2. The environment data under historical climatic scenarios from 1970 to 2000 and the climatic shared socioeconomic pathways (SSP) 126 scenario model from 2021 to 2040 and from 2041 to 2060 were downloaded from the WorldClim website, and the elevation (1 km, 2010), population (1 km grid population dataset of China, 2010) and annual vegetation index (1 km, 2010) data were downloaded from the Resource and Environmental Science and Data Center, Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The contribution of environmental factors to H. concinna distribution was evaluated and environmental variables were screened using the software MaxEnt 3.4.1 and R package 4.1.0, and the areas of suitable habitats of H. concinna and changes in center of gravity were analyzed using the maximum entropy model in Heilongjiang Province under different climatic scenarios. In addition, the accuracy of the maximum entropy model for prediction of H. concinna distribution was assessed using the area under curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristic curve.

RESULTS: A total of 79 H. concinna distribution sites and 24 environmental variables were collected, and 70 H. concinna distribution sites and 9 environmental factors that contributed to distribution of the potential suitable habitats of H. concinna in Heilongjiang Province were screened. The three most significant contributing factors included precipitation seasonality, annual precipitation, and mean temperature of the driest quarter, with cumulative contributions of 60.7%. The total area of suitable habitats of H. concinna was 29.05 × 104 km2 in Heilongjiang Province under historical climatic scenarios, with the center of gravity of suitable habitats located at (47.31° N, 129.16° E), while the total area of suitable habitats of H. concinna reduced by 0.97 × 104 km2 in Heilongjiang Province under the climatic SSP126 scenario from 2041 to 2060, with the center of gravity shifting to (47.70° N, 129.28° E).

CONCLUSIONS: The distribution of suitable habitats of H. concinna strongly correlates with temperature and humidity in Heilongjiang Province. The total area of potential suitable habitats of H. concinna may appear a tendency towards a decline with climatic changes in Heilongjiang Province, and high-, medium- and low-suitable habitats may shift.
